It’s also an incredibly hazy history for the most part. The Maldivian character has clearly been shaped by this tumultuous past: hospitable and friendly but fiercely proud and independent at the same time.

The Maldives has a tropical climate distinguished by two seasons, or monsoons: the dry northeast monsoon from December to March, and the wet south eastern monsoon from May to November with more strong winds and rain. April is a transitional period noted for clear water and warm weather. The temperature remains remarkably consistent at around 30°C year round.

As the Maldives is warm throughout the year it is recommended that you pack light comfortable relaxed clothing. Most resorts are quite casual, so light clothing should be adequate at most times - you may also want to take a thin rain jacket in the event of the occasional rain storm. Don’t forget appropriate beach wear plus sunscreen and sun glasses.
